2025 Cost of Living Adjustment

By Rachel Pinch

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that there will be a 2.5% benefit increase for 2025. This 2.5% cost-of-living (COLA) adjustment will begin with payments received in January 2025 for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients.

If you are currently receiving SSDI benefits, you can expect that the payment you receive in January will be 2.5% higher than your 2023 monthly payment. If you receive SSI, the maximum monthly benefit will increase from $943 per month in 2024 to $967 per month in 2025.

As of December 2024, Social Security COLA notices will be available online to most beneficiaries in the Message Center of their my Social Security account.

This is a secure, convenient way to receive COLA notices online and save the message for later. You can also choose to receive available notices online instead of by mail when you sign in or create a my Social Security account. Be sure to choose how you want Social Security Administration to let you know when your COLA notice is ready to view in your Message Center: email only, text message only, or both text message and email.
